The
Kona Brewers Festival is a fundraiser for outstanding
local nonprofit organizations. Each year, grant proposals
are solicited from 501(c)(3)nonprofit organizations of
the Big Island that meet one or both of The Bill Healy
Foundation's focuses - environmental conservation and
the well being of children - are invited to apply to be
a beneficiary of the Kona Brewers Festival. The application
deadline is in November of the year preceding the Festival.
Successful applicants are then required to submit a one-year
anniversary report that provides narrative and financial
accounting of how funds were used.
The
nature of the granting process for the Festival is unique
in that beneficiaries of the Kona Brewers Festival are
also vital participants and supporters of the event through
their volunteer time and energy. This festival can only
be successful through the significant support provided
by each beneficiary. For example, for a number of years,
Recycle Hawai'i has managed the onsite sorting of trash
and post-event recycling, TREE Hawai'i has coordinated
the post-event clean up of the venue; ACF Chefs de Cuisine
Kona Kohala Chapter has encouraged Big Island restaurants
and resorts to participate; and other dynamic organizations
have help to make the event a success through volunteering
before, during, and after the event.
